- Install ALERT program as a regular DOS program inside OS/2 2.0
- ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
- Installing ALERT from a disk in a disk drive
-
-
-
-
- The following instructions assume basic knowledge of
- OS/2 environment and suppose that you will install
- ALERT in an ALERT directory.
-
-
-
-
- 1. Select OS/2 SYSTEM, COMMAND PROMPTS, DOS FULL SCREEN.
-
- 2. Make sure that the current drive is A: or B:
-
- 3. Type the installation command EX.: A:\INSTALL A:
- or: B:\INSTALL B:
-
- 4. Type EXIT to return to OS/2.
-
- 5. Since you cannot migrate the ALERT program the regular way
- inside OS/2, you must DRAG a new program file Object out
- of the Templates Folder to the Desktop.
-
- 6. Edit the Settings by clicking the mouse button 2 on the program
- object, and then the Right arrow close to the Open option.
-
- 7. Fill the Path and File name field this way: C:\ALERT\ALERT.EXE
-
- 9. Fill the Working directory field this way: C:\ALERT
-
- 10. Click on the SESSION Tab and select DOS full screen
- (Alert looks much better on a full screen...)
-
-
- 11. IMPORTANT !
-
- Press the DOS SETTINGS push button.
-
- Go to VIDEO_ROM_EMULATION and turn it to OFF. (ALERT
- uses an ANSI emulator that conflicts with this setting
- when it is left ON (the default value).)
-
-
- 12. Press the SAVE button.
-
- REMARK: OS/2 will keep some files open when you shell to a DOS session
- from OS/2. To avoid sharing violations, OS/2 won't let Virus
- ALERT open these files. It is thus normal to see the error
- message "error opening file XXXX" while scanning your OS/2
- partition.
-
-
- 13. If you want to install the ALERT icon, you should import
- the ALERT icon for OS/2 using the Icon Editor and overwrite
- the current icon on the Desktop saving the ALERT icon under
- your OS/2 directory using this filename:
-
-
- ex.: C:\os2\WP!1.ICO
- or D:\os2\wp!1.ICO
- To do that:
-
- a. Go to GENERAL, clicking the GENERAL tab.
-
- b. Select CREATE A NEW ONE
-
- c. Go to FILE and select Open
-
- d. Browse on the drive where you installed ALERT
-
- e. Select the ALERT directory
-
- f. Select WP!1.ICO and double click on it
-
- g. When you see the ALERT icon, save it, using
- File Save as, under your current OS2 directory
-
-
- ex: C:\OS2\wp!1.ico
- or D:\os2\wp!1.ico
-
-
- h. Answer YES when asked if you want to overwrite
- the current Icon
-
- i. Save it, accepting the values in the Save option box
-
-
- j. Close the Icon Editor by double-clicking the object
- icon in the top left corner
-
- k. While still in the GENERAL menu, change the title
- to ALERT
-
-
- 14. Close the SETTINGS window by double-clicking the Object box
- at the top Left or by calling the pop-up menu with the mouse
- Right button, and selecting 'Close'.
-
-
- 15. If you didn't rename the OBJECT while you were in the GENERAL
- menu (inside SETTINGS), you can rename the OBJECT now by
- pressing and holding the <ALT> button while clicking and
- holding down the mouse Left button.
-
-
- Delete the old name and enter ALERT as new name.
- Click the mouse Left button once on the object to
- accept the changes.
-
-
- 16. Run the ALERT program by double clicking the mouse Left button.
-
-
-
-
-
-
- FINISHED press ESC to exit
-
